UK-based collecting society PRS for Music has published some data which it hopes shows encouraging signs of more women taking up careers in songwriting.
The society says that 40% of its new members under the age of 20 identify as female. That compares to 21% in the 20-29 year-old category, and just 12% among its 60-69 year-old members. Overall, 17% of PRS for Music’s membership identifies as female, which the society says it’s working hard to improve.
